The Annapurna Peak Expedition (8,091m) is one of Nepal’s most thrilling high-altitude climbing adventures, offering experienced climbers the opportunity to summit a true Himalayan 8000-meter peak. Situated in the Annapurna Himalayas, this expedition combines technical mountaineering with stunning trekking through diverse landscapes, from lush forests and terraced villages to alpine meadows and glaciers. The journey begins in Kathmandu, where Multipeak Expedition provides professional briefing, permit assistance, and final preparation for the expedition.
After preparation in Kathmandu, climbers travel to Pokhara and trek through the Annapurna region, gradually ascending to the Base Camp. The trek itself is a scenic experience, passing through charming local villages, rhododendron forests, and the Annapurna Conservation Area, a UNESCO-protected landscape. This approach allows for proper acclimatization while giving climbers the chance to enjoy the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.
At Base Camp, climbers begin high-altitude training and acclimatization rotations with the guidance of experienced Sherpa support. Multiple high camps are established along the glacier and snow slopes, allowing climbers to adjust to extreme altitude before the summit push. Multipeak Expedition ensures a safe and well-organized expedition, providing fully equipped Base Camp facilities, tents, meals, and climbing support throughout the journey.
The summit phase is the highlight of the expedition, requiring careful planning, patience, and technical skills. Climbers face challenging snow and ice slopes, glacier travel, and high-altitude conditions, all while navigating one of the world’s most spectacular mountain environments. Reaching the summit of Annapurna Peak is a remarkable achievement, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, glaciers, and Himalayan ridges.
After the summit, climbers descend safely to Base Camp and retrace their route back to Pokhara and Kathmandu. The expedition concludes with a farewell dinner and debriefing organized by Multipeak Expedition, celebrating the accomplishment of summiting one of Nepal’s iconic peaks. The Annapurna Peak Expedition not only provides a physical and mental challenge but also an unforgettable Himalayan experience that combines adventure, culture, and nature in one extraordinary journey.
Begin your journey from Kathmandu with either a scenic 25-minute flight or a 6–7 hour drive to Pokhara.
If flying, enjoy aerial views of Annapurna, Manaslu, and Dhaulagiri ranges. If driving, pass through river valleys, terraced hills, and traditional villages along the Prithvi Highway. Upon arrival in Pokhara, check into your hotel and prepare for the next day’s drive into the lower Mustang region.
After breakfast, begin a scenic drive along the Kali Gandaki corridor to Tatopani. The road follows the deep Kali Gandaki Gorge, considered one of the world’s deepest gorges, between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna massifs.
Tatopani is famous for its natural hot springs, where you can relax in the evening. The landscape gradually transitions from subtropical forest to rugged hills and river valleys.
Continue driving off-road toward Hungkhola via rough mountain tracks. The journey becomes more adventurous as the road narrows and enters remote Himalayan terrain.
You’ll pass small settlements, waterfalls, suspension bridges, and steep canyon landscapes. Hungkhola serves as the gateway toward Dhaulagiri’s alpine region. The scenery becomes increasingly wild and dramatic as you approach the glacier valleys.
Begin trekking from Hungkhola toward higher alpine terrain. The trail gradually ascends along rocky ridges and moraine paths. You may pass near the famous Sky Cave, a large rock overhang historically used as a natural shelter by trekkers and climbers.
Depending on pace and expedition planning:
Trek to Middle Camp (acclimatization stop near Sky Cave), or
Continue directly toward Dhaulagiri Base Camp (approx. 4,700m) if weather and team condition allow.
As you gain elevation, the south face of Dhaulagiri dominates the skyline, with glaciers, icefalls, and towering snow walls creating a dramatic alpine atmosphere.
Rest at Base Camp and short acclimatization hikes. Glacier and ice training with Sherpa guides.
Rotation between higher camps:
Carrying loads, route fixing, and acclimatization.
Climbers rotate between Camps III, IV, and Summit Camp (~7,800m). Multiple summit attempts depending on weather.
After summit, descend to Base Camp gradually to reduce altitude sickness risk.
Trek back through Annapurna region to Pokhara, then fly/drive to Kathmandu. Final debriefs and farewell dinner with Multipeak Expedition team.
Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for international flight.
Here is a list of what you might want to pack for the hike. Please take this as a starting point. You’ll need layers of warmer clothing during the winter.
